Emergency Services Academy Course Catalog

General Emergency Services 101: This course is an entry level survey of CAP Emergency Services.  Completion of the course and exam opens the door for further specialty qualifications in all Emergency Services areas.

General Emergency Services 102: This course builds on to the GES 1 course to include the CAP Radio Operators Course and CPR and First Aid. Prerequisite: Completion of GES 1

Urban Pathfinder 101: This is course covers the methods used to track an Emergency Locator transmitter in an urban setting to earn UDF Certification.  Prerequisite: Completion of the GES 1 and 2 Courses

Pathfinder 301, 302, and 303: These courses cover the entry level skills for CAP Ground Teams. Members will build on the information and skills learned in the Urban Pathfinder Course and take it off road to earn GTM-3 Certification . Prerequisite: Urban Pathfinder

Pathfinder 201: This course builds on the entry level skills learned in Pathfinder 3 by focusing on Land Navigation and Ramp Search Skills.  Successful course completion can result in GTM-2 Certification Prerequisite: Pathfinder 3

Pathfinder 101 and 102: This course explores advanced Search and Rescue topics such as how to work the canine teams and air/ground Coordination.  Successful course completion can result in GTM-1 Certification. Prerequisite: Pathfinder 2

Team Leader 101, 102, and 103: These are a comprehensive set of courses designed to prepare Ground Team Leaders for the challenges of team leadership. The courses cover the leadership aspect of CAP Ground Operations for Emergency Services Missions. Prerequisite: Pathfinder 1

FIRST AID AND CPR COURSES *

Standard First Aid and CPR: This class is an excellent opportunity for all CAP Members to learn about the basics of CPR and First Aid.  The intent of the course is to provide a hands on opportunity to learn to recognize an emergency and provide basic life saving skills.

Advanced First Aid:  This class builds upon the basic skills learned in Standard First Aid and CPR. Students will develop a deeper understanding of traumatic injuries, sudden illness, and recommended treatment of those conditions.  This class is recommended for Pathfinder Team Medics and those Cadets and Seniors who will be serving as a medic at extended CAP activities such as encampment.   Prerequisites: Age 16 and current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.

Wilderness First Aid: This class also builds upon the basic skills learned in Standard First Aid and CPR. Students will develop a deeper understanding of traumatic injuries, sudden illness, and recommended treatment of those conditions in wilderness settings away from immediate medical care.  This class is recommended for Pathfinder Team Medics and those Cadets and Seniors who will be serving as a medic at extended CAP activities such as encampment.  Prerequisites: Age 16 and current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.

* All First Aid and CPR courses are conducted through the American Safety and Health Institute and may have a nominal cost for the class.
