Choose the Path that is Right for You

The first part of getting involved in Civil Air Patrol emergency services is obtaining a General Emergency Services 101 Card (GES 101).  A General Emergency Services 101 Card is required for all other emergency services specialties both on the ground side and the air side.

Step 1: Become a member in good standing

Step 2. Obtain a complete CAP field uniform

Step 3: Complete Level 1 training (Senior) or Achievement 1 (Cadet)

Step 5: Complete the General Emergency Services Questionnaire

 

 

 

Step 5: Sign-up for and attend a wing-sponsored GES 1 course.  The GES 1 course contains:

  • Introduction to CAP emergency services
  • The CAPF 116 E.S. questionnaire
  • Aircraft Ground Handling Training
  • Support for completing the NIMS 100.b course
  • Support for completing the NIMS 700.b course
Step 6: Complete the National Incident Management System 100.b and 700.b Online Courses

 

 

Step 6: Sign up for and attend a wing-sponsored GES 2 Course. The GES 2 course contains:

  • ICUT Radio Operators training
  • ICUT written and practical assessments
  • Basic First Aid and CPR
Step 7: Locate and sign p for an approved CPR/First Aid course Step 7: Contact your squadron emergency services officer to process your GES 101 card
Step 8: Complete

  • The online Introductory Communications User Training (ICUT) course
  • The ICUT online exam
  • The ICUT practical exam
Step 9: Contact your squadron emergency services officer to process your GES 101 card
