Wing History Writing Contest 2018

Maryland Wing History Writing Contest (Cadet)

Overview:     The Maryland Wing Historian welcomes written articles, essays, and commentaries to be submitted by Maryland Wing cadets for entry into the 2018 Maryland Wing History Writing contest.

Purpose:       To encourage the scholarship and research skills of Maryland Wing cadets and to promote the development of history programs across the wing.

Criteria and Deadlines:

  • The topic of written submissions may be about CAP and/or military/aviation related history in nature.
  • Submissions shall be no longer than 2,000 words, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins.
  • Submission format will be accepted in MS Word only.
  • Use of footnotes or end notes is encouraged and the general style of the submission shall follow the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS).
  • Digital photos may be included in the submission (minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch).
  • Co-authorship of a submission is allowed but no more than two co-authors per submissions. Only one submission is allowed per cadet author(s).
  • Main criteria for evaluation of submissions: quality of historical research and the quality of writing.
  • The deadline for submissions is August 30, 2018 at 10:00 pm EST and must be sent to: pwhang@cap.gov. No late submissions will be considered. Please put “MD Wing History Writing Contest” within the subject line of email submissions.

Prizes:           A 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize will be announced at the annual wing conference.  In addition, the 1st prize winner(s) will have their submission sent to the quarterly CAP National Historical Journal for possible publication.
