PAO Writing Contest 2019
MDWG Public Affairs is hosting a contest focused on the Cadet from 1 September – 15 October 2019. The focus of this contest is to promote the role of squadron public affairs while recognizing MDWG Civil Air Patrol cadets who have excelled in personal development while reflecting the Civil Air Patrol mission in 2019. MDWG squadrons are encouraged to submit an article focused on a high performing cadet within the respective unit. Supporting rules and guidelines are below.
General Guidelines: All submissions should have been written before 15 October 2019
Submissions for all categories shall be received no later than 15 October 2019. No exceptions to this deadline will be permitted.
AWARDS: Submissions are due to MDWG PAO not later than 15 October 2019 for consideration. Each category winner will be announced on 31 October 2019 and will invited to participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington Cemetery with the wing commander on 1 December 2019.
CONTESTS: There are 3 (three) contest categories;
- Cadet NCO
- Cadet Junior Officer (C/2nd Lt – C/Capt)
- Cadet Senior Officer (C/Maj – C/Col)

The focus of this contest is to promote the role of squadron public affairs while recognizing MDWG Civil Air Patrol cadets that have excelled in personal development while reflecting Civil Air Patrol mission in 2019.
MDWG Squadrons are encouraged to submit a publication focused on a high performing cadet within respective unit. Each entry must be identified with the cadet’s name, the submission author, and respective Squadron.
Consideration will be given to: Cadet’s support to wing and squadron level activities, cadet member achievements or awards, training accomplishments, contributions back to respective communities, and being well-rounded. Contestants are encouraged to consider design, layout, writing quality, photojournalism, and use of the Associated Press Style as part of respective submission.
Supporting photos must be in digital .jpg format with Associated Press Style (dateline/caption) criteria; cropping is permitted. Pictures may be color or black and white. Each submission may include up to two photographs per entry. Include a concise descriptive caption for each photo.
Judging for this award shall be done by a committee consisting of at least 3 members appointed by the MDWG Public Affairs Officer. Judging and selection of cadets will be scheduled in accordance with the current deadline for submitting winning entries.
As the winning entries for each category is chosen, the subject cadet for each category will be asked to participate in the wreath laying event prior to 1 December 2019; an alternate cadet will be also designated in the case the primary cannot participate in the event. Winning entries will be published for general public awareness by the MDWG PAO.

Any member of the MDWG, Civil Air Patrol may submit entries for this contest; however, entrants and subject cadet CANNOT be the same person.
Submissions must be electronically submitted to 2nd Lt Jeffrey Robertson, MDWG PAO, firstname.lastname@example.org. Each entry shall be identified with the name of the author of the publication and the squadron number.
