Maryland Wing Deputy Commander for Operations
Lt Col Thompson has been a member of the Civil Air Patrol since 2010. He has master ratings in Command, Aerospace, Cadet Programs, and Administration. He holds multiple aircrew ratings, ground team ratings, and incident command post ratings. He has completed Level V of CAP’s education and training program. He was the commander of College Park Composite Squadron from 2016 to 2020 and the Group III commander from 2020 until assuming the position of Deputy Commander – Operations, Maryland Wing in 2024.
He worked in facilities management at the University of Maryland Stamp Student Union between 1977 and 1998 and then worked as the Director of Information Systems at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. He taught English in the Prince George’s County Public Schools from 2007 until he retired in 2016. He is currently a full-time substitute teacher for the county and has certifications to teach English, Theater, Business, and Computer Science. He has undergraduate degrees in Theater and Computer Science and master degrees in Business Administration, Telecommunications Technology, and Education.
