Civil Air Patrol Cadets Participate in National Memorial Day Parade

Washington D.C. (May 29th, 2023) – Civil Air Patrol members from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. gathered on Monday morning to volunteer to be part of the annual National Memorial Day Parade held in D.C. carrying 30 different flags and helping with VIP escort.
Over 130 members from Civil Air Patrol’s Mid-Atlantic Region (Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, and National Capital wings) showcased their shared core value of Volunteer Service by signing up on Memorial Day to help carry the Betsy Ross Flag, the Bennington Flag, the Star-Spangled Banner, as well as the 27 flags of the WWII Allied Nations throughout the Memorial Day parade. On top of that, cadet members also assisted with VIP escort at the event, helping foreign nationals, U.S. military members, and Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall to get checked in and find their seats for the ceremony.
Community outreach events such as the National Memorial Day Parade are ways that Civil Air Patrol cadet and adult members can participate in and make a difference in their local communities. Other common activities include collecting donations for veterans' relief funds by organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, laying wreaths for fallen veterans during the annual Wreaths Across America event at local cemeteries, and more.
