Maryland Wing Welcomes New Wing Command NCO
March 27, 2023 – Granite, MD – Maryland Wing Civil Air Patrol welcomes Civil Air Patrol Master Sergeant David Tolson as the Wing’s Command Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO).
Tolson brings over 30 years of military leadership and emergency services experience to the Maryland Wing, Civil Air Patrol. As the Command NCO, MSgt Tolson will advise the Wing Commander and key leaders on issues that impact the Wing’s airman and respective mission. He will oversee various MDWG programs with the purpose of maintaining the readiness, morale, and welfare for the organization. He also provides professional guidance and monitors administrative activities, awards and decorations, promotions, and CAP oriented education.
MSgt Tolson is currently serving in the Maryland National Guard and also a retired Sergeant of the United States Park Police (USPP) where he worked as a Patrol Officer and Rescue Technician (Flight Paramedic).

Civil Air Patrol is the longtime auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and as such is a valued member of its Total Force. In its auxiliary role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 single-engine aircraft and 1,944 small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). It performs about 90% of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 82 lives annually. CAP’s 60,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies.
